‘One of the last remaining independent art magazines,’ Spike was founded in 2004 by the artist Rita Vitorelli and has been a mainstay for ‘criticism and unconventional ideas.’ The online forum is broken up into three segments: Columns, Essays, and Reviews. Columns is particularly robust, with topics ranging from ‘On Personal Style’ to ‘On Trophies’ and ‘On Damage.’ The essays are your standard literary and cultural criticism, and the reviews cover exhibitions, movies, dance, performance, books, etc. There are also interviews with a variety of cultural figures such as the Korean dancer Geumhyung Jeong and Neil Stubley, the Head of Courts for Wimbledon.
